The methodologies used in cold air intake systems have been used in race cars, race boats, aircrafts, military tanks etc. The concept used in these systems is to regulate the temperature of the air entering the intake tubes .i.e. to make the air cold when the engine is heats up and vice versa in order to decrease the fuel consumption rate, and increase performance and efficiency of the automobile.

When the temperature of the air increases, the molecules in the air tend to collide with each other and tend to move away from one another which results in thin air. Thin air has lesser volume and hence results in lesser horse power.

Another factor that effects the volume of the air is the altitude of the place. And moisture also adds up in decreasing the volume of the air.

As the engine heats up, a lot of heat is created under the hood and in the deck, which heats up the air entering the intake tube, which makes molecules to move away from each other and hence the air becomes thin and loses its volume. The ratio of air to fuel should be around 14.5 to 1. To obtain this cold air intake methodology is used.

Our automobiles need a balanced air to fuel ratio. The air is drawn into the intake tube into the air chamber provided by the automobile manufacturer. The intake system would approximately be the size of that provided by the manufacturer and can be assembled into the automobile easily.

The intake tube is replaced with the installed air intake which has a wider bend so as to increase the volume of the air entering the combustion chamber, which results in more oxygen molecules available for combustion hence increasing the power of the machine. The air box is replaced by cold air intake kits. These kits are fixed outside the engine compartment, where the heat in the engine would not effect the air entering the kit. This arrangement would therefore provide air filled with more oxygen molecules which provide a better burn and hence increasing the power.

Thus if this concept in systems is installed appropriately checking for the necessities such as cold air entering the tubes and hence providing air rich in oxygen which increases the combustion and more volume of air entering the system, we would have better fuel efficiency and increased performance from the automobile.
